BASED IN ATLANTA AND ENTIRELY SELF TAUGHT, AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTIST TAAVET HAS WORKED FOR THE LAST SEVEN YEARS ON CREATING A PRACTICE CENTERED AROUND HIS WORKS.

Taavet has devoted his practice to pushing the mediums of oil, acrylic, charcoal and graphite. With perfection as a fundamental aspect of realism: a sense of sleek precision is kept at the core of his practice.

Taavet’s works explore the intimate notions of “Black Holiness”, one’s internal dialogues and the often illusive concept of ‘purity.’ Common to all his work is the religious imagery that surrounds his figures, challenging the ideas of what holiness is. Taking reference from Christianity, Hip-Hop and Black culture his highly detailed scenes described in paint and pencil with photographic precision take surrealist inspiration. Using the images of black archetypes to evoke a momentary recognition in the viewer, the recurring themes play with religious symbolism, with an exploration of holiness and ideas of blackness.

Combining his love of film and video, Taavet documents the detailed process of the making of his art, aiming to engage his audience with exciting creative content as an alternative to the typical academic space. This platform highlights Taavet’s passion to share art with collectors, patrons and build a community centered around this world of art making and its journey.
